How to Message Residents in HelloNido

Send direct messages and building announcements to residents from HelloNido. Every conversation stays with the property, so your whole team sees it.

Messages keep each resident's conversation with property management in one thread. Use them to answer questions, share photos and follow up on maintenance without starting a separate conversation for every issue.

Open a resident's conversation

  1. On Home, select the property you want to work with, or keep All Properties selected.
  2. Open the Messages tab.
  3. Tap the resident's row. Check the resident's name and door before sending anything.

The list shows the latest message, its time and any unread count. In All Properties, rows also include the property name. A resident can appear with No messages yet, so you can start the conversation instead of waiting for them to send first.

Send a message or photo

  1. Tap Type a message... and enter your message.
  2. To attach a photo, tap the image icon beside the message field.
  3. In Add Photos, choose Choose from Library. On your phone, you can also choose Take a Photo.
  4. Review the attached thumbnails. Tap the small close icon on any photo you do not want to send.
  5. Tap the send icon to post the message.

You can send text, photos, or both. The composer keeps up to five attached photos. An empty message with no photos cannot be sent. If sending fails, the app shows an error rather than clearing the message as though it succeeded.

Follow the conversation

Messages are grouped by day and show their sent time. A double checkmark on your message indicates it has been marked read by the other side of the conversation. The thread refreshes while it is open.

This is a resident-to-management thread, not a private chat with one particular staff member. Other authorized members of the property's team can access it.

Follow up on a maintenance issue

Open Maintenance, select the request, and tap Message Resident. This opens the same resident conversation rather than creating another thread. Include the request number if you need to distinguish it from another issue.

Good to know

  • You can access only conversations within your property permissions. Residents can access their own conversation, not another resident's thread.
  • Photo attachments require the relevant device permission. If access is blocked, Add Photos offers Open Settings.
